Donald W. Gray, MD
Chief Medical Officer
After 11 years of military service, Don went on to have a successful career in Emergency Medicine and direct patient care before joining the Loran Group. He has practiced Emergency Medicine for over 30 years, most recently as a partner in a large practice that served seven hospitals in the Orlando area. He has a deep understanding of the medical care barriers that often cause unnecessary hospital admissions and readmissions of patients from the Emergency department, resulting in needless cost and frustration for patients, family and physicians. His valuable insights help the Loran Group design and implement healthcare solutions for the most appropriate and cost-effective post-acute care.
Don expanded his experiential knowledge during his time in the United States Air Force, where he served as Chief of a large Flight Medicine department with 14 physicians and over 50 support staff. His responsibilities included budgeting, scheduling and coordination of medical support for multiple testing, operational and special operation squadrons.
Don has also instructed American Heart Association courses (ACLS, PALS) for physicians, nurses and respiratory technicians, and worked with hospital IT departments in designing, developing and implementing Electronic Medical Records systems.
He received his education at the Wake Forest Bowman Gray School of Medicine in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, followed by residency training in General Surgery at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Wake Forest. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from the University of North Carolina. Don has two grown children and currently lives in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina with his wife.
