Jim is a serial entrepreneur whose clinical and administrative careers have focused on physician leadership and the belief that if the focus is on “what’s best for the patient” financial success will follow.
Early in his career Jim founded an emergency physician group from the ground up and earned a multiyear contract at a 386 bed teaching hospital in Denver where he served as Chief of Emergency Services for over 10 years.
During his time as Chief, Jim volunteered to become the medical director of a struggling HMO the hospital had founded. He later became the acting President. In that role he learned the nuts and bolts of managed care and successfully stabilized the local IPA by focusing on transparency,communication, and identifying benefits for provider physicians.
Jim became the first president and medical director for the Denver area for Qual-Med at a time that organization was an $11 million privately held organization. During his tenure he also served on the Board of Directors and as Southwest regional VP of operations, among other duties. When he left in 1991, Qual-Med was a $300 million revenue public corporation.
Later, Jim became Co-founder, President/CMO of Common Sense Medical Management which managed the high risk population for the State of Colorado.
Jim has also. worked for Lumeris as a medical director where he pursued his passion for population health. He’s currently serving a part-time basis as President/CMO for Bridgewell Medical a start-up medication therapy management company with a unique delivery system.
